Hashimoto's and large goiter

by wdsmith32, Nov 16, 2006 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 6 months ago.  I just seen an endocrinologist for the first time yesterday.  After feeling my thyroid his first question was "have you ever had a biopsy"?  He stated that it was larger on my right side.  I am scheduled for a ultrasound and possible biopsy.  Is this routine for someone with an enlarged thyroid on one side or should I be concerned?  I am not really sure what I should expect.  Any suggestions will be appreciated as I am very concerned.

Most likely it's just the hashi (inflammatory changes) but if US shows a discrete nodule, I do an FNA.

Ideally the endo has US in the office and performs the US himself, tells you the findings and then can do an US-guided FNA in the office if necessary.
