Hashimoto's but low TSH (and pregnant)

by bearbait, Jan 12, 2007 12:00AM
I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my second child. I've never been diagnosed with any thyroid problems before. At 10 weeks, my OB did routine bloodwork & told me my thyroid levels were high and that I was hyperthyroid.
TSH - 0.01 (0.4-5.5)
T4, total - 15.9 (4.5-12.5)
T3 uptake - 29.2% (27.8-40.7)
T4, free - 4.6 (1.6-3.7)
I went to an endocrinologist, who did a physical exam & said I seemed fine, no physical symptoms. She did bloodwork (this was when I was 13 weeks pregnant), and the results came back that my TSH was still 0.01, though the other numbers were better. However, she said I also had the Hashimoto's antibodies. I am supposed to get bloodwork done at the beginning of February, and if the TSH doesn't get better I'll start meds. She thinks the TSH may just be out of wack b/c I'm pregnant. Any thoughts??
The only symptoms I've ever had the would indicate thyroud problems are premature greying, low basal temperature, and being colder than everyone else (when I was pregnant with my first I was always hot, which continued until I stopped nursing, then I started to get cold again sometimes). No other symptoms though.
Thanks!

low tsh is likely due to early pregnancy.  would want to test TSH receptor antibodies for graves however and keep a close eye on thyroid levels which should start to improve in the next 4-6 weeks.
