Having issues losing weight gained.

by Tracie Dawn, Jul 08, 2007 12:00AM
Ok I have been taking my medication, my TSH level is down to 32. I have stopped gaining the weight, however, I am not loosing it. I work out now 30 minust everyday. I run, walk and joined Curves. I've changed my eating habits and still no weight loss. It is so very depressing, I am uncomfortable and at my wits end! What can I do or take to assist me with this matter? My sister owns a nature store that sells several different things that I want so ask if I can take any of these with my Levothroid. This is what she sent me;

"Yerba Mate is a good choice.  Can get in tea or pill form.  Also have an herbal diet/detox liquid called 4.3.2.1 from Health from the Sun.  It burns fat, cleanses, purifies and boosts metabolism.  It's main ingredients are: Green tea leaf, dandelion root, cola nut extract, yerba mate, chicory root.  One more option is Cuur - pill form.  It contains Green Tea Extract, Birch Extract, Yerba Mate, Coleus Forskohlii Extract".

Another question, is it ok to be taking products like Midol, Bynadryl (I have allergies) or water pills?

Thank you,
Tracie

These supplements can probably be taken safely with levothroid - there is no definite research into this however.  Best to take levothroid first thing in the morning about 30-60 minutes before anything else (including food).

Your TSH is still very high, so many of the effects of restoring normal thyroid function have not likely taken place.  Goal TSH is around 1.

Hi Tracie,
I appreciate lots will have alternate opinions, so I won't go there.
However, for what it's worth, while studying supplements for 35 yrs.now,
I have only in the last 5 years worked in a retail environment, and I see
many people like myself with thyroid problems.  Yerba Mate, Ma Huang,
aka Ephedra, Bitter Orange, Forskolin, Guarana, and the like I have seen
bother some people who are on thyroid meds.  The biggest culprits seem
to be Guarana, Ephedra and Synephrine/Bitter Orange, and the other herbal
caffeine combinations.
