Hypothyroidism and Pain

by ital35, Apr 13, 2006 12:00AM
I was recently diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Hoschimotos disease. I also have a goiter. My doctor could not belive that I was functioning at all. She told me that she has never seen levels like mine and that I set the record. They were through the roof. Surgery is indicated to remove the goiter because the size and horseness also the feeling of choking. I am really concerned. They cant schedule the surgery until my levels are somewhat normal. I have been placed on synthroid starting at 1/2 pill a day for 7 days then 100 mcg day. My body is constantly aching. I have pain in my arms, legs, back and shoulders. Is pain in the upper back area common with this? The pain that I have is in the scapula area. All the reasearch that I look at online can be so confusing. Has anyone experienced this? I am going to see a surgeon after the sonogram results are in for a fine needle biopsy can anyone tell me anything about this procedure also? Im just really confused and scared. Thanks

The FNA will likely confirm Hashimotos.  See other post for the remaining answers -- you are VERY hypothyroid -- many symptoms should improve with treatment.
