Iodine and Thyroid

Is it possible to consume too much iodine?  What are the side effects of overdose of iodine if any?

I have a small goiter, thyroid leveles are normal and it isn't growing.  I am at a stand still with weightloss.  I have tried Tenuate which is suppose to be safe to take for weightloss but I started having sharp pains in my thyroid and it felt as if the goiter was beginning to swell.  It was harder to swallow.  I told my doctor and stopped taking the Tenuate.  He said he had other patients on the medicine that had goiters and they were doing fine.
I heard of a diet pill that is called Miracle Burn that isn't suppose to make your  heart race and you don't have the effects like dizzyness and hyperness as you do with other diet pills.  It is has has iodine in it and I was wondering would too much iodine effect the thyroid?
Do you know of anything safe that will  help curb the appetite and helps loose weight for someone with a goiter?

I would not use any diet pills - they are potentially harmful and only produce short-term weight loss.  Not worth the risk or the expense.

Have your goiter evaluated with ultrasound, thyroid labs (including antibodies).
