Is Everything ok?

Hello. I am 38 & female. In 2000, 6 months after birth of my son I noticed a knot in the front of my neck.  Went to dr, refered to ENT and diagnosed with goiter.  Several FNAs said fluid blood filled.  Ultrasound revealed several cysts.  Dr. said he wanted to keep watching as he felt a little suspicious.  All blood tests said thryoid functioning fine.  Put on Synthroid to shrink goiter.  Dr. said if it shrinks I would be able to quit taking med.  Unfortunately, the Dr. I was seeing moved shortly thereafter and I had to see his partner who did not agree with EVER quiting the med. The goiter did shrink. Anyway, I became pregnant in 02 and stayed on the drug throughout my pregnancy.  I stoped seeing ENT and let my obgyn take over meds.  Two months after birth I quit taking med on my own.  All has been ok. Last month I started having a problem with my heart rate getting too high causing pain (during exercise only). Went to family Dr. Many tests & dx with tachycardia. Take Atenolol. Thyroid tested and is normal.  Dr. said I should see about the cysts and sent  me to new ENT. Had another ultrasound.  ENT said left lobe in 2000 us was 3.1 and is 4.1 1/2 now.  The right was 3.1 1/2 and now is 5.1.  Diagnosed as "non-toxic uninodular goiter".  He said the growth was little over 6 yrs, so just call back if I notice any change.  Will the us tell if cysts are cancerous or not?  Is the wait & see ok or should I be scheduled for a follow-up? Will cysts likely grow? My mother has Hashimotas could this be any indication that I will get it?
Thank you for your time!

Cysts may grow - would follow-up with an endocrinologist with an interest in thyroid (see thyroidologist.com or thyroid.org).  Would also test antibodies to see if you have Hashi.  Stopping the med is not unreasonable - but if antibodies positivive I would keep the TSH (potentially with meds) around 1.0 given the history presented.

Hashimoto's can be hereditary.  Was your your blood tested for thyroid antibodies which can confirm the diagnosis of Hashimoto's?  If not, could be helpful to check same.

Not sure what all was tested.  Just had standard blood work.  Cholestorol, thyroid, diabetes etc.  Is there a different type of test for the antibodies?  All I know is both my family doc and the ENT said the thyroid function is fine.  I just read a few other posts in the heart forum about tachycardia and the thyroid.  Seems interesting.  Maybe there is a connection.  Thanks for your info.

Hello.  All of the blood tests came back normal.  Cholestorol was 150.  Down from 199 in 03.  I have lost about 50lbs. over the last 2 years so I guess that has helped.  I just found out about my mother having Hashimotos after having blood tests run.  Therefore I had not mentioned this to the ENT and think maybe I stand a chance of getting it since I already have thyroid issues (goiter).  I believe I stand a chance to having a lot of different health issues since we have a lot of different things in my family.  Like the Hashimotos, hrt disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and probably more that I don't even know about.  I appreciate your information.  Thanks!
