It's not my Thyroid!?

by gassy, Sep 04, 2005 12:00AM
Hi everyone I'm the one with the lump in the throat thing happening along with the tightening of the throat. Well I went to the Dr. on Thursday and my TSH was 1.9 (in the high normal range I will be monitoring this)and I tested negative for Hashi's. Now my medication was decreased from 175mcg to 100mcg (I was being overmedicated). I am feeling alot better for the exception of this lump! Dr now feels this has nothing to do with my thyroid since levels are now in the normal range.I'm off to the ENT for a camera down the throat and then a barium swallow. Don't really know what to think of all this just trying to take it day by day. Certainly have enjoyed this site and even if it isn't my thyroid that ends up to being the culprit I'll keep on reading the posts as I still am Hypo. I guess everything happens for a reason because when I went into see the Dr we had a detailed conversation regarding thyroid because of the knowledge I learnt on this site - no more just saying I'm normal I want numbers and I know what they mean now!!
Having better days!!

Hi, I'm glad to hear you are doing better. It's nice to hear about someone using good knowlege they learn to help discuss things with their Doc.
Since they found your hypothyroidism is not Hashi's, did they say what was the cause? Just curious.
I'm glad you better and hope your throat problem will soon be better too!

HI, I'm not glad that you were over medicated, but am so glad that you are feeling better.  I really hope that the ENT is able to help you out.  I too, just recently discovered that I was overmedicated too, and never even realized it, I would feel crummy, and the dose just kept going up and up.  It was very hard for them to judge where to put my dose, becuase I always felt terrible, and my level was always normal.  For the past year I have been dealing with the heart palps and anxiety, as well as chest pain and shortness of breath.  The symptoms just totally debilitate you.  Well thanks to a big flare up I had a few weeks ago, I leveled out, I think.  It's amazing all those symptoms went away, and now even my joints feel so much better.  I also have had alot of hair loss, and it was not growing back, maybe knowing now, that I had too much medication, might be the cause of it not returning, will have to see.  I also had a terrible time with dizziness and lightheadedness, and extreme tiredness, and it was suggested to me that the propranalol, that I have been taking now for a year may indeed be the cause.  Well now I have stopped that and feel even better yet.  I associated everything i had with the Hashi's when in fact, my meds had a lot to do with how crummy i have been feeling.  Good luck to you, Keep us posted on what they find.  Shannon

In response to your question regarding my Hypothyroidism what the cause is the Dr never said. However remember I have been Hypo since I've been 13 (now 42) and my dad, grandmother and sister also have thyroid disease - I'm thinking heritary?
