Just started taking synthroid and am having problems

by New synthroid user, Jun 16, 2007 12:00AM
Started taking Synthroid a week ago.  Had significant reaction.  My endocrinologist has cut my dose to 12.5 mcg for 10 days, then I'm to up it to 25 mcg for 20 days and then on up to the 50 mcg.  My worst symptoms have subsided a little, but what I'm most bothered with now is 10 hours of nausea after taking the medication.  My initial symptoms were stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea.  I take it first thing in the a.m. with lots of water.  My primary doctor suggested taking it 2-3 after eating breakfast, although admitting this wasn't the ideal situation.  But I really have trouble dealing with the nausea.  Any suggestions/ideas/thoughts really would be appreciated.  Is it an option to take it at night before bedtime, as long as I haven't eaten within 1-2 hours before taking it?

take it at bedtime -- 2h after dinner -- there is research showing this is as effective as am dosing.

I have always taken my Synthroid before bedtime.....as long as it is a couple hours after you have eaten.  I've had good luck that way because its like remembering to brush your teeth...something you cannot go to sleep without doing.  I didn't think Synthroid was supposed to make you sick since it is supposedly the same thing your body produces or close to it.  I've been taking it for over 6 years now........Just a Hint.......DO NOT try the generic! Good luck, hope you feel better.  GJ
