Multi Nodular Goitre 1.7cm

Since 2001 I have been watching this growth on my thyroid.  I have had an ultrasound every 2 years. (No FNA)It has stayed the same size..My thyroid levels are perfect..I can still feel it when I swallow or turn my head and swallow.  When I develop a sore throat from a sickness that side of my throat is sore first.  Is this normal and do you think every 2 years is still reasonalbe to get it checked froman endocronoligist?  An  insurance is declining me coverage because of it....Is it thyroiditis..

Thanks for any help or input...

There is no reason not to have an FNA - in fact, that is standard of care for such a nodule measuring 1.7 cm.  An endocrinologist can tell you if this is thyroiditis (check antibodies), test thyroid function, do an FNA and then help tell your insurance company thate this is a low risk situation.

Hi there,

No every two years is not normal or the average! you should have had a FNA biopsy by ultrasound guidance  twice by now or once every 6-12 months!!! I had a partial thyroidectomy 19 days ago.. I had a FNA when I first found my large nodule 3.0 cm was benign follow  up 1 yr later right nodule had changed cells and became suspicious and had it removed thankfully it was benign... PLEASE be proactive in your health .... nodules need  to be biopsied. They truly never know what they are untill they are out. My labs were always normal. Most nodules are 85% benign but there has been way  to many women of all ages that have or had papillary carcinoma! not to scare you but yes you need them biosped ASAP! Good luck .
