Natural progesterone cream

Dr. Lupus:  My holistic doctor gave me natural progesterone cream to use to help me stabilize my moods and pick up the free estrogen that is floating in my body.  My question to you is it dangerous to use with taking levothyroxine 37.5 with having hashimotor disease.  My doctor is an MD also and seem to be very knowledgeable about the thyroid along with helping me with celiac disease.  What is your experience with this natural product.     Linda

I have seen patients who have had other docs try these types of products -- the response if variable in terms of being helpful overall.  The FDA is investigating several compounded/bio-identical hormone products currently.

The effect of progesterone on thyroid function is thought to be minimal - it's the estrogen that influences thyroid requirements.  Following thyroid function while you are starting this or other hormone treatments is recommended to know if there is any change in thyroid med requirements.

sorry about the name and thank you for the answer as I have only used it once and it seemed to make me feel better with just the one use.   Thank you Dr. Lupo.  Linda
