Neck swelling and pain

by prudeaux, Jul 09, 2007 12:00AM
I had Hashimoto Thyroid disease and had a full Thyroidectomy in Jan. 2003 but the left my parathyroids.  I have been having alot of swelling of the neck, my endo tells me to put ice on it and it will be okay.  My arguement is that my problem was never detected by blood work, my first visit to an endo he told me that nothing was wrong that my blood work was fine (although my neck was severly swollen) so he put me on steroids for almost a year till I finely hit the worst depression ever, then I told he that I refused to take the steroids ever again and that I wanted my thyroid out.  So think god we took it out because my ENT who did my surgery said that it was very discolored and oddly shaped and that he could have turned in to cancer.  So know my fear is that something is going on but my blood work shows everything is okay.  I need answers I'm so tired of my neck being swollen and hurting.  Please help.

Would talk with ENT as it's been 4.5 years so if all the thyroid is out, what's the swelling from?  It would not typically be the parathyroids....I assume you are on adequate thyroid hormone replacement.

Yes! I'm on .112, I see an endo every 4months.  What can I do for being tired all the time?  Is there something other then my thyroid medicine that could be taken to boost my metabolism, because I've been dieting for 4mth. and I have only lost 6lbs. it's so fustrating.
