PET SCAN THYROID ACTIVITY

by Matt_24, May 03, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,

I've been fighting testicular cancer - and when conducting a PET scan the other day, the results showed no activity in my lymphnodes (which is good, the cancer did not spread) -- but they mentioned there was "some" activity in the thyroid and that I need a TSH.

I've researched thyroid cancer and I have no symptoms. Does this "uptake" revealed in the PET mean there is cancer, or could it just be a sign of something else?

Thanks.

PET uptake does not necessarily mean cancer.  Often hashimotos -- check thyroid antibodies -- will do this.

To be certain -- check ultrasound of thyroid, thyroid antibodies (TPO and Tg), TSH, Free T4.
