I just woke up today and realized that I've been taking the wrong medication for over a month now.  When I went a month ago to get a refill for my meds (levothyroxine), my doc gave me a refill of synthroid instead.  I am highly upset because I was doing fine before on the original meds and now since he changed it I'm probably one big mess.  I can't believe a doctor could mess up like this and give someone the wrong medication.  What should I do?  Can he get in trouble for this?

i had the same thing happen to me-only i think it was my error that caused it-i didn't think to tell my dr when she wrote the refill i had been on generic-she assured me that there wasn't that much difference but it still took a month or 6 wks to adjust

Linriv7, As Woodbegood said, it's really only the difference of Levothyroxine being a different brand, probably the generic for Synthroid, they are both syntheitc T-4.
It is true though that some people need a slightly higher dose of the generic than the mother brand but you should know this when you get a follow up blood test. I would however, tell my Dr. if you get hypo symptoms and feel you need a dose increase. Usually a Dr. starts you out with generic or only switches you to it when you request it.

My doctor told me to never get the generic of synthroid.  I take 0.075 mg. of synthroid daily.

Thank you to everyone for commenting, it helped.  i just called my pharmacy and they told me that it wasn't different medication, but the bottles were labeled differently.  one said synthroid and the other said Levothryoxine.  But problem solved.....Thank God!
