Possible Hyperparathyroidism?

by tarrigo, Nov 06, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 25 year old male.  I am experiencing muscle twitching and weakness on the right side of my body.  I am also experiencing anxiety and am being treated for both.  My neurologist has given a dx of Benign Fasiculation Syndrome.  I am extremely worried about ALS, and have an EMG scheduled to rule that out Thursday.

My GP has done numerous blood tests and my calcium levels are mildly elevated.  He is testing my thyroid hormone, and I just completed a 24 hour urine sample and a chest x-ray.

Do my symptoms appear to be possibly related to hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia.  I know it is never normal to have elevated calcium, and understand that over active parathyroid glands are the most common cause.  Can the glands contribute to my muscle twitching and weakness as well?

Also, my symptoms have perisisted for approximately a little over two months.  I am currently on Lexapro for anxiety.

Thank you so much.

Muscle weakness/discomfort more parathyroid related than twitching but it all could be hypercalcemia.  See what the PTH level is and go from there.
