Post Partial Thyroidectomy - need synthroid?

by 4myhope, Apr 15, 2007 12:00AM
I have Hashimotos and just had the right lobe of my thyroid removed 04/11. I'm dizzy and emotional. Could I need hormones? My Dr. didn't prescribe any for me yet. Appt in 4 weeks.

May need some thyroid replacement but if you had normal thyroid function last week (pre-op), it is unlikely to have dropped that quickly to cause dizzy/emotional.  Many hashi patients will need treatment after a partial -- perhaps ask your doc to do the labs 2-3 weeks post-op as opposed to 5 weeks to get an idea of where things are heading.  Your calcium should be normal after a partial, but this could be checked as well.  Some people have reactions to anesthesia that last a week as well -- may just take some time to improve.
