Hello,

Thank you for your time.  I had a case of thyroiditis 5 months after my 3rd baby was born.  I went very hyperthyroid and then yo-yo'ed between hypothyroid.  I did a trial of levoxythyrine which sent me way hyperthyroid at the lowest dose.  My endocrinologist said it was my bodies way a saying my thyroid didn't need meds.  That was 3 years ago and now I feel fine and TSH has been a very nice 2.4.  My stats are 33 year old female.

My question is this...what are the risks of me getting pregnant again?  This thyroiditis lasted about a year or so till finally leveling off.  I always tested negative for thyroid antibodies so I seriously doubt it was auto-immune.  I really want to try for another baby.  Should I be concerned about having a thyroid issue while pregnant?  What about post-partum?  It's been 3 1/2 years since my last baby and I feel normal and my periods are also very regular too.  If I do get pregnant again, how often should I have my thyroid checked?  Thanks so much, this is such a wonderful forum and service.

Best wishes (:

With the negative antibodies, things should go smoothly -- you will be at risk for post-partum thyroiditis again and I recommend monitoring thyroid function before, during and after pregnancy at intervals of 2-3months during preg and until about 6 months after.
