Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in 2004 and was prescribed 50 mcg of Levothyroxine at that time.
In Nov. 2007, has thyroidectomy for goiter causing compression syndrome: left lobe, thymus and right lobe removed. Shortly thereafter was bridged up to 125 mcg Levothyroxine. Started feeling a fullness in my neck in Nov. 2008 but ultrasound showed the thyroid gland was not demonstrated in the ultrasound of the right and left hemimandible made at that time. In Mar. of 2009, i started losing myt voice, it was becoming more hoarse and another ultrasound was done. The results were: The left lobe either measures 3.84 x 1.73 x 1.61 cm or represents a recurrence of thyroid tissue, possibly malignant. Absent right lobe of thyroid gland. In May of 2009, a thyroid uptake and scan was performed which stated: The thyroid images demonstrate an asymmetry in thyroid lobe size with a right-sided dominance. In Jun. 2009, has lab tests the results being:
TSH: 1.356
T4: 1.42
Thyroid Peroxidase: 365
Antithyroglobulin: 22
T3: 3.5
I have an Endocrinologist appointment in November but was wondering if there is anything i should be doing while i wait?

Sounds like the left lobe is still there....would get the surgical report to see the extent of the "thyroidectomy"
The uptake/scan is confusing as there does not appear to be any right-sided tissue on ultrasound. The labs are normal on the current medication and confirm Hashimoto's.

According to the surgical report, as i mentioned in previous statement; the left lobe, thymus and right lobe were removed. Can it grow from nothing in November of 2008 (the date of the first ultrasound), to enlarged left lobe in March to enlarged right lobe in May (date of thyroid uptake and scan) ? I was under the impression that perhaps thyroid tissue cannot grow that quickly nor is it to grow back. I still am losing my voice and it feels as though something is attached to muscle since it hurts when i try to speak. Not to mention the fact that i am on 125 mcg levothyroxine, is that supposed to suppress the growth somewhat as well? Thank you for your assistance in this. I saw an ENT specialist who wanted to decrease my levothyroxine medication because he thought my thyroid glands were just regrowing, even though while taking the current dosage my levels are normal. I am confused and wondering what can be done about it and should i recommend other tests? Again, thank you.
