Second day of Radio Active Iodine treatment after Total Thyroidectamy; Extremely Elevated TSH

by luzlana, Apr 01, 2007 12:00AM
A month ago I had a total thyroidectamy after being diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma, and have been prepairing for I131 Radio Active Iodine treatment. A week ago, I was told that my TSH levels were up to 70, however only needed them to be up to 30 in order to get me ready for the treatment. My endocrinologist never even bothered to tell me when they were up to 30; I found out from my surgeon. If a wk. ago my TSH levels were at 70, I can't even imagine what they are up to now. This is the second day of my treatment and just now, after having paged my endocrinologist, he strongly advised me to take a double dose of Lyvoxil. What are the dangers of taking 2 112MCG pills of Levoxyl?
Also, I have not been feeling any of the typilca side effects of being hypothyroid. I have actually been in extremly high spririts and quite energetic and even travelled out of town for several days. The only difference is at times i feel swelling in my hands and fitugue in my legs; but nothing that's had me worried. Is this normal and what does this mean?

I now just discovered a bunch of bruises on my legs; does this have anything to do with being hypothyroid and what are the dangers of being hypothyroid for over 3 wks, even though I have been feeling just fine?

I would greatly appreciate any feed back.  Thank you so much.

Swelling and easy bruising can happen with hypothyroid.  Cannot give specific advice about how much med to take, but usually I resume the normal dose of levoxyl or if there are severe symptoms use cytomel as well for 1-2 weeks.
