Shrinking my Goiter

by fadeaway872, Mar 06, 2008 01:16PM
I have hastis and am hypo. I currently take levothyroxine 112mcg. I had blood work not too long ago and doc said they are fine. I had an ultra sound and an uptake scan. I have one cold nodule. I had an FNA done on that. Its benign. But all I am left with is this huge lumpy neck. Is their anything I can do or something my doc can do besides surgery to shrink this?

Radioactive iodine is an option sometimes, but not always effective.  Keeping the TSH in the low normal range (around 0.3-0.8) may help keep the goiter from growing and it may shrink.  This may require a dose increase of levothyroxine.  Otherwise - surgery is the only option.  If the goiter is not bothering you and the biopsy was benign, then observation is the first choice in most cases.
