Still feeling bad - doctor says I am good? HELP

by homeloanchic, Jul 13, 2007 12:00AM
My Mom was recently diagnosed with Hashi's and since I have been having a lot of symptoms of Hypo since the birth of my daughter 4 years ago she suggested I go get tested.  My doctor says test results are normal - but I still have fatigue, cold feet, enlarged tongue, fullness in throat plus many more symptoms.
I am frustrated....do I need to have different tests run?

TSH .78 (0.46-4.88)
Free T4 1.0 (0.78-2.19)
Anti Thyroglobulin AB, S <1:100   (<1:100)
Thyroperixodase Antibodies, S <0.3 (0.0-8.9)

Vit B12 282  (239-931)

Please I am not depressed and they keep giving me anti-depressants!

thanks,

The thyroid looks fine - no indication for thyroid treatment based on the normal labs and antibodies -- despite the symptoms.  Would consider a B12 supplement for the lowish b12.

Your B12 is kind of in border line , are you vegetarian ?. Test MMA (Methyl malonic acid) and Homocestine level to confirm B12 deficiency .Read this forum which talks about B12

B12 can give you all those symptoms which are common with Hypo as well.

Spoke with the doctor today...yes, I am B12 deficient - she provided me with oral b12 - 1000 mg/day.  and started me on  Armour....hopefully in a few weeks I will be feeling somewhat better.
Thanks

I don't think you need to use Armour , based on your test doesn't look to me a thyroid issue. If i would be you i first start B12 treatment and periodically check thyroid level again to make sure it is not falling down or up. It is not advisable to add too many variable at the same time but again your doctor must have some reason to start both treatment at the same time.
Wish you good luck for your health.

Does not look like you need Armour or any thyroid medicine for that matter. Your TSH is low. You have enough thyroid hormone!! Lucky you!
Try looking into other health issues, but the extra B12 should help!

Your TSH looks too low to be on thyroid replacement hormones. This can cause you to become hyperthyroid.
You should question your doctor about why he/she would do that.

Then again, maybe a very small dose of Armour ( does that even need an Rx?) would have a placebo effect without causing you any harm.

I am a 20 year old female that has been going to the endo for about 4 years now with a goiter. I was also diagnosed with hashimotios and have been on synthroid. My TSH and everything is good but i have 2 nodules in my thyroid. This is my 3rd ultrasound in a year and i just got the results from the imaging center. I dont see my endo for about 2 weeks. It says....

Findings: 6.7x2.7x2.5 cm right lobe thyroid. 5.1 mm isthmus. Left lobe thyroid 2.3x5.9x1.8cm. A heterogenous throid echotexture. Along the posterior aspect of the left lobe of the thyroid a 5.7x6.7x5.0mm nodule. Within the left lobe if the thyroid a 5.7x3.0x5.7 mm nodule.

Inpression: Heterogenous thyroid echotexture. A nodule in the left lobe of the thyroid. a nodule along the posterioor aspect of the left lobe of the thyroid. Thyrodial versus extrathyroidal in origin.

How does this honestly sound? I dont want to be surprised when I go to my endo. Also, my thyroid has been bugging me lately. I constantly feel a "fullness" in my neck. Do you think my endo would take it out of i ask her to?

Hi,
Regarding your low b12...does your doctor know if it is pernicious anemia (autoimmune)? That is what I was diagnosed with...I need to get monthly b12 shots.
Good luck. Hope you feel better.
