Synthroid and missed periods

by vettegurl, Aug 20, 2008 01:15PM
4 months ago I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and was put on .75mg and was increased to .1mg a few weeks ago. I am 5 days late for my period, I have taken 2 home pregnancy test that came up with as result of negative. I'm wondering if Synthroid has this much effect on periods? I am healthy and 34 years of age.
Thank you

To: What did the Dr say?
I too was diagnosed with hypothyroid in Jan. They put me on 75 mcg and was taking the pill 7 days a week. It was cut to 6 days and now 6.5 days as my TSH levels came high. In middle of all this, my periods are coming late. Day 36 and onwards. I am worried. Would be curious to know what your doc said.

My doctor told me when you have any thyroid problem, it affects your whole body...now what stays the same or changes can be anything, so as for my periods (and yours) we could be irregular all the time or it could make it regular. Now, I'm still trying to find the right dosage, so when I'm at the right level it could make my periods normal again, but remember, we will always be tracking our numbers every 6 mnths or so, so if you find the right dosage, your periods return to normal, then they go out of whach again, it could mean we need to check our dosage level again.
