What happens when a person becomes pregnant and taking Synthroid? I am thinking of having children down the road. I feel scared because my TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh levels are always out of whack. Any advice?
Right now I'm pregnant. And on .150 synthroid. It all started when I was pg the 1st time. But by the 2nd I was supposed to be "normalNormal saline flush" my thyriod always goes bonkers when I get pg, I dont know if it's me or a normalNormal saline flush thing. I took some meds to supress the thyriod. Amd to have ultrasounds every 2 months to make sure the baby didnt have a goiterChronic thyroiditis (hashimoto’s disease) Goiter Graves disease Toxic nodular goiter. After I gave birth it magicly went to normal. I asked Dr about my synthriod and getting pg. He said DO NOT miss a dose or the baby will be metaly challanged. He is a old, and tells it like it is. My ob says it's ok. You cant quit taking it, you and the baby has to hace it. Talk it over with your ob and your endo. Good Luck!
I asked my Dr. the same question. I want to start a family soon and was worried about my synthroid. He said that it was absolutely crucial to to be on the medication if I become pregnant due to the complications that it would cause my baby. He really didn't go into any specific complications but i did read that it can cause low birth weights and mental defects if the mothers thyroid is underactive and not treated. Hope this helps.
