My thyrogen level after RAI was 3.9. I cannot find enough information to support what the average range should be. My dr. thinks this level is too high. Is this a high number?
My RAI scan was done last week and showed thyroid cells only in the thyroid bed but it seemed like a lot according to the dr.
My next appt is not until three to six months to check levels again. Does this seem appropriate?

Thyroglobulin is a marker of thyroid protein -- it can tell difference between thyroid cancer and normal remaining non-cancerous thyroid tissue. Also, to measure it accurately, the thyroglobulin antibody must be negative (in other words, must measure Tg-Ab every time a Tg is measured).
That being said, a Tg of 3.9 is a little high, but it depends on the status -- ie was this after thyrogen (TSH) injections or while on thyroid hormone suppression -- ie, what is the TSH at the time of the Tg measurement. Also, if done soon after RAI treatment, it may not have had enough time to come down.
So, depending on all these things, would consider retest in 3 months while on levothyroxine medication and re-evaluate.
