Thyroid Antibodies

by frenchfrie, Jul 02, 2007 12:00AM
I would like to know, what effects if any, are high levels of antibodies? Do they ever drop, or go away? Does this indicate the body is still in the process of destroying the thyroid? It seems a lot of people are wondering about this, including myself. Thanks for the responses to my other questions. I am finally going to a rheumatologist to see about fibromyalgia, and also a possible sleep issue. I do have these really intense vivid dreams that wake me up and I feel very tense and tight because the dreams are always very action packed.

intense dreams are side-effects of certain meds (not thyroid) -- ask your doc about these if you are on other meds.

The antibodies confirm the hashi diagnosis and sometimes drop but there is no need to follow them in most cases and usually they persist long-term.

Antibodies are destroying our thyroid gland. Even though we take thyroid hormone to supplement what we can not make the war against our thyroid gland is on by the antibodies. This is an autoimmune process. The body decided that our thyroid is a foreign body and begun the process to drstroy the gland.... This is sad - but many of us have it. Thyroid antibodies CAN be reduced by taking more than enough thyroid hromone. I saw less decline on syntetic thyroid hormone replacement but more of a drop once I was taking Armour Thyroid. Some other techniques are reportedly reduce antibody count but I have no experience with these - yoga, breathing techniques, accupuncture and someting called neuromodulation which I heard of but not familiar with it. Taking thyroid hormone supplementation should decrease the numbers but it may take a long time (years). I hope this helps you a little. Good luck!
