Thyroid FNA results

by Marla13, Sep 11, 2006 12:00AM
My pathology report came back as follows.Atypical follicular cells with different sizes and shapes see. Large fragments of follicular cells noted. Hurthle cells macropages and colloid seen.In combonations vo all the above findings favor hyperplastic nodules in the background of a multinodular goiter. Cell blocks show follicuar cells and hurthle cells. Pleas correlate with clinical findings and follow up. My problem is the ENT say to have surgical biop. done and the ENDO say have songram and FNA redone in 3 to 6 months.  What now a third opinion? Do you have any suggestions? The ENT say he can't say for sure if it's cancer free while the ENDO says it's a benign nodle. I'm not a doctor and I'm relying on the fact that they are. How can they both read the report so differtly. My TSH are normal, radio. uptake was borderline high just as FYI.

Thank You,  Marla13

The "atypical" follicular cells are concerning --- I am not sure what this means.  Instead of another clinical opinion, I would opt for a second pathology opinion -- send to Univ of Florida -- Dr. Massoll for example.

Also correlate with thyroid antibodies -- if positive, then this may well be changes due to Hashimotos.
