Thyroid Nodules

I go often to my doc for Diabetes.  My sis, dad and brother have Hasimotos.  Doc is always keeping track of my numbers.  For about a year now she has said that my left lobe can be palpated but my numbers have all remined in the normal range.  She decided to get a baseline ultrasound.  I have 2 nodules that are complex cysts.  They are 1.9cm(the one she felt) and on the other side 1.4cm.  She wants to do a scan and then a fnb.  She said her gut feeling is that I have Hashis thyroiditis.  NOW....with no blood work irregularities are these 2 tests going to tell her that I have Hasis that has not presented itself.   Needless to say, I am afraid of the cancer thing as well even though the odds are low.  ANY HELP?????

there is no need for the scan if the numbers are normal -- next step in this case in FNA.  With the DM and the family history, hashimotos is likely -- but testing thyroid antibodies would confirm this.  The chance of cancer is 5% or so.

Thanks for your response.  I believe I had the extensive Thyroid blood test about a year ago and my numbers supposedly came up in the normal range.  I had a TSH 6 months ago and that was also supposedly within the normal range.  My doctor said to me "it is my gut feeling that we are going to find Hashis given your family history"  She has not run a recent Thyroid blood panel.  Could it reveal NOW that I have hashis since I have had the nodules for probable a year or so?  I am just soooooo confused.  What came first, the chicken or the egg.  Is there a possibility that my thyroid is exhibiting Hashi characteristics and my numbers have not shown it yet?  Thanks Thanks Thanks
