Thyroid medication to high taken off synthroid

by kimcle, Mar 21, 2006 12:00AM
I was taken of synthroid in February due to my thyroid levels being to high 0.06.
Doctors took me off synthroid completely.
I had a partial thyroidectomy and 2 parathyroids removed 14
years ago.
I currently have nodules on the remaining thyroid.
Docotors told me I need to have the rest of my thyroid removed.
My concern is how long can I be off of the synthroid before
going very hypothyoid ?
It has been 5 weeks and I do not go back to my Doctor
to repeat TSH T4 ,and T3 till June.
Doctor told me that wnat my thyroid level aroun 3.98 before restarting synthroid.
This does not make sense to me.
Any information would be most appreciated.

This is a little confusing -- were there suspicious cells on FNA of nodules remaining in thyroid?  Ie, why does the remaining thyroid need to come out? The comment about TSH >4 is consistent in general with current thinking regarding considering starting synthroid for hypothyroidism.  Would check 6 weeks after stopping synthroid (ie, about now) and not wait until June......

Hi;
Thank you for the reply.
I do not know my T3, waiting for lab results taken yesterday.
Doctor said she should have the results in a couple of days.
