Tingling/Numb feeling on my fingertips after I-131 intake.

by ladied, Nov 09, 2009 12:57PM
I had my I-131 intake to kill off my thyroid done on November 5, 2009 on November 6, 2009 I started getting this tingling/numb feeling in both my pointer fingers. I figured it was a temporary symptom but it was not on the list of symptoms given from my radiologist oncologist.  They are still tingly/numb today and it's not a pleasant feeling. Is this normal?

This is not a common side effect - but it is likely temporary, if persists, check calcium level.  It could also be due to a fluctuation in thyroid function after the I-131.  Again, this should be temporary.

I called my radiologist Oncologist and was advised that if I still feel the tingling to then come in..but he was not sure of the specific side effect. Do you have any suggestions for a test for them to run. Should they re-take myood work.. I'm now feeling very cold, which it wasn't like that last night it just happened and I'm not sick or anything It's just a burning sensation in the fingertips and in and around my back and stomach

I think you should get in as soon as possible and get a calcium ( serum and ionized) Vit D - phorphous along with testing your thyroid labs of TSH - FT3 and FT4. I wasn't sure Dr. Lupo would be back on this post.

The sooner the better....
