To JimLow..Do you know of any natural cures for Hashimoto's?

JimLow..I appreciate your comments to my first questions.  I was wondering if you knew of a natural remedy for Hashimoto's.  Also, how quickly does this usually progress?  I feel like my thyroid gets bigger every week.  My ultrasound said my thyroid was enlarged and herterogenous on one side and mildly heterogeneous on the other side.  What does that mean?  I am having a thyroid scan with uptake in a few weeks.  I think my doctor will probably want to just wait and see what happens over time.  She tends to be that way.  I usually find an alternative way to treat things instead of taking medicine for the rest of my life.  Please let me know what you think of all this.  I was also interested to hear about the guy with the brain injury that he felt may be associated with his thyroid trouble.  I had a brain injury 6 months ago and couldn't talk without stuttering for a few months.  I had speech therapy and now I am much better, but still struggle occasionally.  My husband thinks the head injury may be behind all of this.  I had a TPO of 1391, just to remind you who I am.  Thanks again for your answers.

Hi JCD, I've not heard the term hererogeneus before but sounds like with your rapid swelling, they are doing a good thing by also giving you an uptake scan. I'm sure your swelling is from the ABs being so high.
As far as natural treatment for hypothyroidism, I would always recommend a person never try this in place of thyroid hormone replacement. Holistic remedies are great for some things more simple but thyroid disorder is too serious not to follow a Dr.s regemin of medication. My wife was litterally healed by natural remedies (Acidophilus and pro-biotics) for yeast infections. And of course natural remedies can help with nerves (herbal teas), depression (ST. Johns Wort), etc... but again, I just believe thyroid is too serious to mess with! You absolutely have to get the hormones replaced. The herbals that claim to be pre-cursers to thyroid hormone (cause them to be produced naturally) may or may not work! Even if they did work, what if at some point thier effects diminished! The best natural help we can do for thyroid, is a good diet, exercise and maybe some nutritional supplements, being careful about vitamins with iron and calcium, which can reduce absorption of thyroid medication. Iron & Calcium containing supplements need to be taken about 6-hours or more apart from your thyroid medication. I really believe these are the only natural things I would add to a Dr.s prescription for thyroid replacement.
The man with the brain dammage, I have known since the 6th grade! I've only known his wife a short time. He is a wonderful man! He has always had true compassion for people and very intelligent. He is part Comanche Indian and also a Christian. I posted their site under the heading "Kelly's Website Already Up". Look for that heading and when you find the address, put it in EXACTLY as I listed it. They are actually still in process of getting more tests for him but they do have a few links on their site that might be helpful.
