What is normal

Had RAI in 1997 and started on .05 synthroid.  Stayed on that dose until 3mo. ago when the VA ran a lab indicating my TSH at .12 with a range of .34-5.6  Free T4 was l.13 with a range of .58-1.64.  My VA Dr.(not an endo) took me off meds.  Just went for re-lab and they only were doing TSH.  My TSH has always been suppressed since RAI so we went by T4.  Can my condition be monitored by just TSH?  Can the Thyroid return from the dead and be normal or what am I in for.  After 7 years of stability I dread going through all that stuff again.  Finally can this effect BP as I first had mild hypertension now have systolic hypertension requiring meds.

Thank you all for the imput

TSH is usually the single best lab, but in your case I would test TSH, FT4 & Free T3.  It's possible that the hyperthyroidism is relapsing -- watch it closely -- may be that you simply don't need the synthroid.  Would ask for an endo consult however.
