Will I need meds now?

by 3kids4now, Jul 30, 2007 12:00AM
On July 6, 2007 I had a left thyroid lobectomy and isthmectomy due to the finding of 2 tumors on the left and a cycst on the right, teh Dr. didn't touch my right side. The report came back as not cancer.

Before surgery my TSH was 2.934 and T4 was 1.15. 2 years ago TSH was 2.040.

Since surgery I have been very tired and VERY COLD!!!!! Will I need meds to help? The ENT has not done labs yet I know it is to soon I go back to him next week. I can't stay cold like this forever!!!!   I am thinking of going to see and Endo but is it to soon?
Thanks 3kids4now

With a baseline TSH of nearly 3, you may have hashimoto's thyroiditis -- ask for antibodies to be tested (esp TPO-antibody) and if positive you are more likely to need meds now that half the thyroid is gone.

However, in some cases of removing half the thyroid it takes the other half about 6 weeks to take-over the demand -- so things may get better on their own.
