Wondering about TSH levels up and down...HELP

by wiredinaz, Aug 17, 2005 12:00AM
I posted the other day concerning my TSH levels changing constantly.  .043 to a range of 1.03 in the past 6 months.  I've been thru RAIO,conclusive mild hyperthyroidism, thyroid ultrasound and have now been put on atenolol because of my high BP. T3 and T4 always seem to be in the normal ranges however.  Seems none of the Docs know what to do...no one wants to give me any suggestions or start me on any meds.  Why would my TSH wander like that?  I've got the symptoms that go along with the low TSH but can't seem to get an answer from anyone what's going on.  Would appreciate any suggestions or comments as to what to do next.

Thanks.

Hi, Sorry you are having a hard time getting more informed. This seems to happen a lot in these times.
By giving you the beta-blocker, they are treating the BP and heart rate increase which is good. Sometimes they add anti-thyroid medications to hyperthyroid patients treatments, such as "Tapazole", which slows down production of thyroid hormone. If medications won't control the overproduction, they sometimes oblate the thyroid (destroy some cells, by radio active iodine)or sometimes remove part or all of a persons thyroid.
Has your beta-blocker helped much in controlling symptoms? If not, I would talk to your Doc about the possible addition of an anti-thyroid medication, to see what he says.
Best Wishes.
