a TSH of 2.24 and a T4 of 13.4 I am confused ...

I have gotten my results from my doctor for the thyroid.  My TSH is 2.25 and my T4 is 13.4.  According to everything I have been reading, it seems that the TSH is slightly elevated and would indictive of Hypothyroid.  However, The T4 is 13.4 which is indictive of Hyperthyroid.  I have read the syptoms (symptoms) of both of these issues and I have ALOT of the symptoms of hypo and not hyper.  Oh and Hypothyroid runs in my family.  My mom and her brothers and mother all had it.  I am really confused...My doc says it normal but the symptoms say no and the new ranges for TSH says no.

The TSH is normal, the Total T4 is slightly high -- check free T4 to see if this is a real elevation or due to estrogens (ie, birth control pills).

THank you for that answer..I am going back to my PCP on Monday because for one I am taking 120mg of lasix a day.  He prescriped a different one and told me to quit the lasix but after 5 days of swelling i gave up and went back to lasix and increased it myself.(sorry to get off the subject) I will ask him to do a Free T4 and FreeT3.  I want to say I REALLY am thankful for your response. I have asked this same Question on 2 other Forums and you are the ONLY one to even bother to send a reply.  THat really means a great deal to me.  God Bless You
