advice needed on thyroid

I really need some help, I developed a goiter 17 years ago whilst pregnant. Dr.s ran usual tests and they all came back in normal ranges.  7 years ago i had a sub-total thyroidectomy as it had grown too large, they gave my thyroxine, but took me off this drug 12months later. I have just been informed by another doctor (for another problem) that i need to be refered to an endocrinologist, but my gp is reluctant to do the letter.  The hospital told me that my ldh is increased but i dont know what this is. The goiter is growing back, and my TSH is 1, i havent had t3 or t4 done, gp says theyre not done unless on thyroxine, im banging my head on the wall, i feel tired all the time, my weight has gone up 2 stone, im cold and irritable. can anyone please advise what i should do. thanks

TSH of 1.0 usually means normal thyroid -- so that is not likely to cause your symptoms.  Goiters may return -- would do ultrasound to see if there is a nodule that may require biopsy then monitor -- if the goiter is causing choking/pain/swallowing problems, etc then another surgery or I-131 may be necessary to eliminate it.

Talk to an endocrinologist about the role of thyroxine to "suppress" goiter growth -- this may be appropriate in your situation, particularly if you live in an area that is relatively iodine deficient.

I just went through an failed ivf cycle.  I noticed a day after the transfer that my neck swelled.  I went to my PCP today and she said that my thyroid is very swollen.  I've been through this before and was told that my levels were within the normal ranges so I could not be put on any medicine.  I was reading about the need for iodine in the diet.  I don't eat any fish and may take in enough salt.  Do anyone take iodine supplements? since I can't be given medicine.
