chest pain and dry skin

I HAD TOTAL THYROID REMOVED FOR PAPILLARY CANCER AND TAKEN RAI LAST JUNE '05. I CURRENTLY TAKE 300 MCG OF LEVOTHROXINE AND BEEN HAVING CHEST PAIN AND MY SKIN HAS BEEN VERY DRY.  HAVE HISTORY OF HBP AND TAKE TOPROL XL 50MG FOR PRESSURE.  DOCTOR PRESCRIBED ELOCON CREAM FOR RASH ON TOP OF DRY SKIN WITH NO IMPROVEMENT.  DOES ANYONE HAVE THESE SYMPTONS AND WHAT CAN BE DONE FOR RELIEF. MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS UNDER CONTROL. HAD EKG-STRESS TEST- ECHO DONE: ALL PERFECT.

QUESTION FOR FORUM MD: MY SISTER JUST HAD A ULTRASOUND OF THYROID AND THEY A CYST ON THE THYROID, DOES SHE NEED TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING CANCER LIKE ME OR BEING WE DON'T HAVE FAMILY HISTORY OF THYROID CANCER? I AM THE FIRST.

Her risk is increased given your history of thyroid cancer.  If the "cyst" is >0.8cm I would do an FNA to make sure there are no suspicious cells.  This would have to be done under ultrasound guidance to make sure the solid components of the cysts are sampled.

Regarding your symptoms, would keep TSH a little low given the PTC history.  The dry skin may be thyroid or unrelated -- aggressive moisturizers are helpful.  The chest pain sounds non-cardiac given the stress test and echo -- consider reflux (heartburn) as well.
