concerned my Dr is wrong about nodules

I had a ct done last month showed 1 nodule at 9 mm. Negative thyroid test but family history of thyroid cancer. While waiting for biopsy to be done I thought the nodule was getting bigger. At biopsy found out that the 1 was now 19mm, 2 more were also found at 12mm and 3mm.All on the right side. Biopsy was negative.
Biopsy was horrible! Intense pain and swelling for a week now. 2 days after biopsy I felt a new lump on my wind pipe. Went back to the Dr. He said it wasnt a nodule but a blood clot from the biopsy. Its the size of a grape. He wants to wait 2 weeks to see if it goes away. Its already been 1 week since biopsy and its not getting any smaller.
A month ago I didnt even know there was a problem and now it gets worse by the day! Its hard to swallow and you can see the lump in my neck.
I'm afraid it was a false negative and wondering how much worse it will get before they do something! Why cant they take the right side out? If I dont have cancer why am I getting more of them and why are they getting bigger? Is my doctor's idea of "wait and see" the right course of action?

Thank you

CT is not as sensitive as ultrasound -- often US will show a larger nodule and detect additional nodules.  The biopsy is usually very well tolerated (with exception of large needle biopsies).  Bleeding will resolve but may take 2-3 weeks -- assuming the lump is indeed a blood clot (which is likely).

Observation is usually appropriate after a benign FNA.

I wouldnt wait and seeand I dont trust those biopsies.Mine came out negative but whn I had the goiter taken out cancer was found.and as largeas yours are ,I would get they out before they got any ;arger and really cause more problem. It will be up to you to decide what to do but I think another doc would be in order as well as aSurgeon.

I have papillary carcinoma as do three of my four sisters.  Two of them had biopsies that were negative.  Please follow your gut instinct on how to treat your nodules.  If you don't have faith in your doctor, please get a different one.  I've fired an endo who thought he was god's gift to the world and how have a wonderful one who listens to me as treats me as a vital partner in my healthcare.  There is nothing wrong about finding a new doctor or being aggressive when it comes to taking care of your health.  It's *our* life, copayments, and thyroid - you need to listen to your instincts.

I would seek a second opinion while the grape sized lump is still there.
