confused about test results

by dmat998, Nov 05, 2007 09:40AM
My original ultrasoud showed a normal left lobe but a slightly enlarged right lobe with a small nodule. I was then sent for a thyroid scan and uptake. The uptake was within normal range (17.6) But the scan showed" Markedly diminished activity throughout the entire left lobe. Recommend correlating with outside ultrasound which is currently unavailable. With little or no activity in left lobe cannot exclude a large cold mass. Right lobe is normal". What does all mean and what should I do from here. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

This scan showed that the right lobe took up more iodine than the left.   I would not worry much about this if there is not a clear nodule on ultrasound and the TSH is normal.  Would follow-up with a thyroid specialist to ensure there is no need for FNA biopsy or other testing.
