Could hypothyroidism cause hypertention, then kidney functioning?

Untreated hypothyroidism is associated with fluid retention and hypertension - which could cause kidney damage.
Please note -- this applies to untreated hypothyroidism, not to patients stable on thyroid meds for hypothryoidism.
