hypothyroidism and weight gain

by jkent, Jun 27, 2008 01:58PM
I have been treated for hypothyroidism for about 2 years.  In this two year period I have gained 50 pounds and I cannot lose it.  Every diet I have tried I have gained weight.  I am severely tired and short of breath.  I have had tests for heart, blood, and lungs.  All have proved negative.  I don't know what else to do.  Any suggestions?

Keep the TSH in target range (0.5-2.5) -- from a thyroid standpoint, there is not specific advice otherwise unfortunately.  Most people with weight issues do not have a thyroid problem, so there is likely more going on than hypothyroidism.
