So do you take meds?  that intrigues me.  NO unfortuanatley I wish I didn't have one, but that's intresting.  I've heard of them being taken out, but never of being born without one.

Yes, babies are occasionally born without a thyroid gland, and if left untreated, the infant will suffer permanent damge through a condition known as "Cretinism". If thyroid medication is given (and must be taken throughout the lifetime of such an individual), then the infant will grow up normally.

Hi

I came across your comment, Yes I was born without a thyroid gland, born 1978 was caught at 28 days old. they first gave me synthroid and found out that did NOT work for me, they then put me on Levothroid=levothyroxine.  I now take .175 sometimes a .2
I am now 27 years old and have a 6 year old healthy daughter, something they said would never happen.  I am what you call a medical miracle for this condition, I had very wonderful parents who made sure I didnt have the look of mental retardation and education to make sure I became something better. If you have any questions contact me ***@****. I am curious to know how old you are?

I just read this comment searching for information on people born without a thyroid gland. I am 20 years old and was also born without a thyroid gland. I have never talked to anyone else that was born without one and was really excited when I came across this website. It was found out at 3 days old and I have been on levothroid for 20 years now. I am really interested in what will happen some day when I want to have kids, and if having no thyroid gland effects that. Or if there is a possiblity any of my kids will be born without one. How rare is this... condition? -Nicole

Hey peoples. I found this topic while searching for it on a search engine and was very excited! I have never met anyone else born without a thyroid gland. I was born without one too.
Was discovered at around 28-36 days old. That's when my body was slowing down.

I take synthroid every morning before school. One hour before or two to three hours after eating with a full glass of water.

I am seeing many female responses, but I am interested to talk to males who were born with no thyroid.  Research I have done has shown huge differences in how men and women with hypothyroidism develop over time, and it seems that men have many more serious health issues later in life.
I am curious, because my brother will be 25 soon and his health is quickly depleating, and though six months ago he was fine, he is now being told that he could die.  He is taking 300 MCG synthroid, but his thyroid level is still in the 80's.  I can't find any research on males older than 30 who have no thyroid gland, and fear that that is because there aren't any.  I have also read research that no males with no thyroid graduate high school, which I'm also interested in.
If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Lauren
