My endo  prescribed Inderal 20 mg twice  a day for my rapid heart beat he said since I was subclinical hyperthyroism right now and have been for the past year that treating the thyroid was not warrented.  My question is inderal going to help my anxiety and my rapid heart beat?  this seems like a high dose of bld pressure medicine for someone who has never taken any before. Is the dosage in the right range?

inderal 20mg 2x/day is a low dose and can be helpful.

However, in cases with "mild hyperthyroidism" I have often used a low dose of methimazole to normalize thyroid function then re-evaluate the symptoms as the inderal only treats symptoms, not really the thyroid.

I take inderal as well.  I started on half the dose just to see what would happen. (10 mgs) in the morning.  6 hours later i was able to take another 10 mg.  I got excellent relief.

I now take 20 mg freely in the morning.  If i feel hyper in the evening, i will take 10-20 according to my symptoms.

My BP did drop, but i was borderline hyper anyway, so now i am in good range.

check your BP just to be safe.  I was told a dose of 80-120mg is what is used for hypertension.

good luck
