I am a 29 year old female.  I was seeing a rheumatologist for severe joint and bone pain.  She found a slightly low TSH and normal t4 t3 and free t4.  She thinks I have hyperthyroid.  Is that possible when I am mostly normal and just slightly low on the TSH.  Also can this be the cause of my joint pain?  My symptoms have been low/absent period all my life, irritability, intolerance to heat and excess sweat all my life, joint pain started after first baby 7 years ago and got progressively worse, heart palpatations comes and goes 6 mos now, unexplained weight gain, increased appetite.  I also have very low Vit D levels.  She said it could be post partum hyperthyroid since I just had a baby.  She is 3 mos old.  If that is the case then shouldn't we still investigate the joint pain? They are also checking for cealics disease/sprue.  Any thoughts?

It could be postpartum thyroiditis or Graves -- those two are the most common in this setting.  If the T4 and T3 are normal, this is "subclinical" hyperthyroidism and may just need monitoring.  Would pursue the rheumatologic workup to make sure there is no other cause of the pain -- but hyperthyroidism can cause these symptoms.
