more and more and more nodules

by dart frog, May 14, 2007 12:00AM
I was told mid feburary that I had 1 nodule. I had a biopsy mid march and was told I had 3 nodules. I just had a ultra sound done may 11th and was told I now have 7 nodules. All in about 10 weeks time!!
The biopsy (done on 2 nodules) was negative. All thyroid tests were normal.
I already have minor swollowing and discomfort. My dr wants to take the "wait and see" approach.
Is there cause for concern? Arent benign nodules SLOW growing? Should I demand the dr take the throid out or should I see a different dr?

Thank you for any advice!!

This may simply be a reporting issue -- often there are several nodules, but not all are described on US as the dominant nodules merit the most attention.  keep an eye on the larger nodules, if the size increases then repeat FNA.  Most of the time the thyroid does not need to be removed.  yes, most nodules are slow growing.  Would correlate with thyroid antibodies to see if this may be hashimotos.  if the discomfort increases, then more consideration could be given towards surgery.

I was able to watch them do both ultra sounds. The techs were very helpful in pointing out what was what. When the biopsy was done I was told that a ct often misses nodules so they checked very carefully and found the 3. Again on May 11th the tech was very careful and we talked about how/why I developed 4 more in such a short amount of time.
