"normal thyroid levels and heart palps"

by k1w1, Jun 06, 2009 12:53PM
Hello,

I'm a 35 year old healthy female who underwent a partial thyroidectomy in 2004 due to a benign tumor.  I have had my thyroid levels tested yearly and appear to be in the normal range.  The historical results I can remember are: 6/22/05 Free T4 was 2.1 and most recently 1/26/09 Free T4 was 0.9 and TSH 1.15.
I've been having occasional heart palps and flutters on and off for the last 5 months and although my Dr does not think they could be related to my thyroid I have a sneaking suspicion it could be.  I've seen a cardiologist and my heart is apparently healthy.  I heard there are varying ranges of what is considered a "normal" functioning thyroid and would like to know if this would warrant an evaluation with an endo?

Many thanks!

The thyroid labs are very normal with little/no evidence that the thyroid levels would be influencing the heart.

I am forever baffled by the medical community who treats the paper and not the patient!  Everyone is not the same and we all do not function the same at the same thyroid levels! One person may feel calm and great at the the high end of normal and another at the the low end.You could very well be having heart palps from thyroid ,my tsh level has to be kept in the very high end or i have palps chest pain insomnia etc  and yes i am a very healthy women with no heart problems! I just cant believe that the majority of doctors think everyone needs to be at the same level even though it causes other health problems such as palps ,headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, shakiness, irritability, anxiety ,ostiosporosis   just to name afew.  Your feelings are probably very accurate ,but good luck in finding a doc that will treat you not the paper!
