rising TSH after mantle field radiation..Hodgkins Lymphoma

Thank you!  I received mantle field radiation in 2003 along with chemotherapy for Hodgkins lymphoma.  Doctors have been monitoring my thyroid since and my latest TSH is 4.6 up from 1.2 and 2.3.  I have a call in to the doctor and am wondering if it is time to see an endo Doctor. In 2004, I had a massive heart attack due to radiational scarring. I now take numerous meds to keep my heart in check. I don't want to wait too long to take care of this latest problem. I have gained an untold amount of weight and am so fatigued that I try to nap at lunch.

Mantle XRT can cause hypothyroidism -- important to keep normal TSH esp with heart history.

Also, XRT may increase thyroid nodules - so ask for ultrasound.

Best to do all this with a thyroid expert, but talk to your primary about starting thyroid meds in the meantime.
