should I expect some hyper symptoms?

by gofigerr, May 25, 2007 12:00AM
My doc started me on Levothyroxine 1/2 75mcg for Hashi's, even though my only abnormal test was antibodies. I had a lot of trouble with hyper type side effects from that dose. Is that normal and will go away with time or should I expect no side effects at all if the dose is right for me?

Thanks!

It may take time to get used to the med -- 1-3 months in some cases. If the labs otherwise were fine, a lower dose of synthroid or levoxyl (insist on brand, not generic) may be appropriate and help with any hypo symptoms while hopefully not being too stimulating

What other tests did he run and were they normal low range?

Were you having any hypo symptoms before begining Levo?

What symptoms are you having now?

I have had every test known to man and the only things that come back abnormal are high TPO antibodies (564) and high ANA 1:640.  I don't know the normal ranges.

My TSH was 2.62, t4 .89 and t3 1.65.  I don't know the ranges, I just know that they are all normal and the t4 is at the very low end of normal.

I have experienced anxiety from time to time, but I could tell it was the meds, just like I can tell when Ive had too much coffee, you just know it's the coffee, it's a different feeling.

Thanks for your help!

Sometimes people who are hypo have those symptoms.  You really need to get your ranges and hard copies of your lab tests to keep track of where you are and how you feel.

If you are a female a FT-4 will be more accurate. FT-4 and FT-3 shows circulating thyroid hormone and should be used to find your set point for replacement dosage.

It will help you find your set point.

Keep a log of how you feel when you have lab's.  ALso take your replacement after your lab draw.  Supposidly it does not matter but when I take my replacement before a lab my TSH shows very low.
