side affects from methimazole

My doctor put me on 5mg methimazole twice a day for mild hyperthyroidism. When I take it, I feel awful (severe joint and muscle pain, especially in the legs; tingling, nausea, loss of appetite, stomach pain). Is this a normal reaction? Should I possibly be retested to see if my TSH levels have normalized? (I don't have Graves, I have three hot nodules). Dr told me that sometimes nodules go away by themselves; true?

These are side effects of methimazole -- hot nodules will occassionally go away by themselves, but in the long-run either surgery or I-131 will be preferable over methimazole (esp with your side effects at a low dose).
