thyroid cyst, should i be worried?

by sammi707, Jul 29, 2009 02:26PM
hi, im 25 and last month i found a lump in my neck, wich was noticeble on the outside of neck. on monday saw a ENT consultant who said it was a thyroid cyst, he did a fine needle biopsy, waithing on results and has referred me for a ultrasound.

he drained fluid from the lump, and it has gone down in size. could someone plz tell me wether i should be worried abt my results? thank you.

most cysts are benign, however it is not uncommon that the FNA (especially done without ultrasound guidance) is non-satisfactory for getting cells.  If this is the case, would consider repeat FNA under ultrasound guidance.

Thank you for your comment, i just had my ultrasound done today, and they told me i had 3 thyroid cysts which were approx 1.5cm each, said i would have to wait for my results and was unable to tell me wat kind of cysts i had? which i find strange as the research i have done has told me that the scan would tell me the type of cyst that it is. should i be worried that it is 3 cysts rather than 1?
