thyroid disorder related to recent radiation therapy

I am a 51 year old female.  I had neck/head radiation last year in March due to a forehead melanoma with + sentinel biopsy.  Neck discetion also.  In the past 6 months or so I have had numerous problems with my teeth on the right side (same side as treatments), eye inflammation and now had thyroid studies done with a TSH of 78 and thyroxine of 3.2.  This explains many symptoms I've been having that I have attributed to Leukine injections I am receiving.  I aslo have a history of Lupus.  My question : is there any other thyroid related studies I should have done labs, scans, US etc.?  I appreciate your time.

I would test thyroid antibodies to confirm the likely diagnosis of autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's) as the cause of your hypothyroidism.  An ultrasound should be done at some point as there may be an increased risk of thyroid cancer in patients with Hashimoto's.

I am assuming as you have Lupus you are aware it is quite common for it to attack your thyroid. Just a layperson here but thought it might give you a direction to start your research. I do have stage II Pap. Thyroid cancer and know that radiation is indeed a major player BUT also know it is very slow and nonagressive so would be lead to believe it would not show up so hard and quick after your radiation.

sorry- forgot to add that it is my understanding in most thyroid cancers your TSH numbers are not effected-- as in most are *normal* in the 1-3 range. Yours of course, are very high.
