thyroid issues

I am a 37 year old female with a mother and grandmother who were diagnosed with low thyroid function.  I have many of the symptoms of low thyroid and have been to see the endocronologist who has checked my levels and said they are within normal range.  I have been checked twice within a year and she tells me to come back in the next 6 months to have it checked again.  I am wondering if I am on the border line of needing medication or if she is  keeping a close watch due to family history.  I am also concerned that they  are not able to find anything as my mothers was not diagnosed until put on a low dose of the medication.  I have struggled with weight loss for the last several years and can't seem to lose the extra in my mid section.   I am currently exercising with a personal trainer 3x a week and doing an hour of cardio 2/3x per week along with careful dieting.  I have been consitenly doing this for 7 weeks and have gained 3 pounds.  This just doesn't seem normal and it is very discouraging.   Please give me some insight on what I should do and if I should be more persistent with my doctor.

With the family history, would check thyroid antibodies and if TSH >3 this may merit a trial of thyroid medication.

But sometimes people have many of the symptoms, but b/c these are non-specific symptoms, they don't have a thyroid problem.
